Go to your Calendar and find the first entry for each month of 2009 (not including memes of course). Post the first line/sentence of it in your journal, and that's your "Year in Review"

January: This year really has just eased itself in
February: Today has been awesome!
March: I split up with Will today....
April: From BBC website: City workers have been leaning out of windows to wave £10 notes at G20 protesters on the streets below
May: Last day of a hard month
June: My hair has never been past this length since the dawn of time
July: Highlights include: Jack and Ianto on a hot wired bike
August: It seems so much closer now that the calendar has been turned over from July
September: hello again everyone, the Travel Blog is updated again, finishing of the Xi'an adventures and bringing you up to date with Shanghai.
October: We went to visit the tunnels in Vietnam on Monday, the result I got to fire a M16 five times and managed to hit a still target once.
November:
4013 / 50000
(8.03%)

December: Hello folks one and all - friends, non friends and random finders of the journal and so forth!

I don't my first lines are very interesting. I must do something about that.

Guess who I saw on a red carpet today and got an autograph of?

Viggo Mortensen's Favourite Food Place in NZ

  • Dec. 13th, 2009 at 10:50 PM
And so the picture posts begin. I sat in the Green Parrot with pictures of Viggo Mortensen staring at me from one wall and a Green Parrot from the other while I drank merrily and ate (the food was pretty damn good). I thought about you guys as I was going in.

btw drop a comment if you want an LOTR postcard I need to know how many I need to buy tomorrow at the Weta Cave

If the mountain defeats you what then?

I had these wonderful visions of walking across Mordor and climbing Mount Doom (at least part of the way). The bag was packed with second breakfast, lunch, snacks and every form of clothing available. I was wearing layers and a hat (most unusual for me since I am not a hat fan) and the walk was to last 7-8 hours.

Okay so I knew that it was going to be a tough walk and it was a lot of uphill but I was doing it. Then the fog came in, I couldn't see ten metres in front of me, then the rain poured and finally on steep uphill with no shelter the wind tried to knock me off my feet and nearly succeeded. I had to turn back. Argh, I can't imagine what it would have been like trying to get a good day for filming there.

I leave here for Wellington tomorrow (and the Green Parrot Restaraunt!) and they say the walk may be doable. Insanity is telling me to try the walk one more time before I head.

2009 & Thank You

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 12:16 PM

Thought I’d do a public entry (gasp) even though it’s been months since my last and will be the last personal post in this journal until the end of 2010.

2009 was a great year in hindsight. I learned that while people are human and share similar experiences to our own, it doesn’t mean they are good for us. New friendships were made and proven to be valuable - and an old friend entered back into my life. As a result I realize how disoriented I was for years without other genuinely creative souls to connect with.

We also took in a stray dog we call Odyss. I chose the name because he was as spirited as Odysseus, and lost. Odyss was trying to find his way to somewhere, possibly home. He’s a whippet lab mix that was chained and starved before being turned loose. He was pretty beat up when he arrived and you could see muscle and bone under his thin coat. Odyss is like Velcro, always with us in all we do.

The most important thing about 2009 was managing to find love in my work again. After nearly ten years of struggling to find direction and love for painting again, something happened. I let go of everything, relinquished control and care for people I couldn’t grasp, severed ties with people who couldn’t find their own faults and decided to find my own. I admitted defeat in several areas of my life, and then slowly picked up the pieces. I feel unstoppable and completely in control. I am never complacent though. This works, believe it or not.

The most important event this year was my relocation back to the states. This year was fortunate in love where I met someone I can relate to and share the good times and changes with. I have a home, and a friend. Three days after the new year I will have been home and living with my partner one full year.

2009 was not without struggles, but it was all pointed in a positive direction.

Also, I want to thank people who view my work. I’ve received emails from a few people expressing their admiration for what I do. Even though I do not respond to the comments posted here (I honestly do not know what to say but thank you) your comments have been very encouraging. I’m always feeling glad if something I create makes an impression on others. Your views are always appreciated. Thank you very much for them.

(Pictures will be coming as soon as I get to an internet cafe and I am not having to use my vodafone toggle...which should be Monday!)

Remember back to the those heady days when Lord of the Rings was everything...

*SQUUUUUUUEEEEEES* I visited Hobbiton I've stood under the party tree and given a speech, I've been in Bag End and seen the beginnings of preparations for the Hobbit!

I go in search of Mordor and Ithilien in Tongariro National Park over the next two days. I am way too excited about seeing them.

I just love the exacting work, the detail, it's never enough. I'm looking even more forward to the detail of the hair and bowl of soup. It's the challenge that gives my work an edge to do, the tension I absolutely love. The harder the challenge, the more I want to rise to it.

Hello folks one and all - friends, non friends and random finders of the journal and so forth! That was very long winded but heck I am in such a good mood. I love New Zealand. All those scenic shots from Lord of the Rings are all around!

I dug a hole in the sand so I could sit in hot water

What are your feelings towards smoking? What rights do you think smokers and non-smokers should have?
